A specialist in veterinary cardiology (a “veterinary cardiologist”) has fulfilled the requirements to be board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, including a 3-year residency and two rigorous examinations. 


A veterinary cardiologist deals with the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease in animals. Procedures often performed by veterinary cardiologists include:

  • thoracic radiographs
  • echocardiography
  • electrocardiography
  • Holter monitoring
  • interventional therapy such as pacemaker implantation and coil placement
