A specialist in veterinary dermatology (a “veterinary dermatologist”) has fulfilled the requirements to be board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology, including a 2- or 3-year residency and a rigorous examination. 


A veterinary dermatologist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin in animals. Typical disease conditions include:

  • allergic skin disease
  • infectious skin disease
  • seborrhoea
  • ear disease
  • hair loss
  • paw and nail disorders
  • specific breed disorders
  • immune skin disorders
  • skin cancer
